Government Programs For Youth In The Philippines

Almost 30 percent of the population in the Philippines consists of the youth. Young people are the ones who will shape the country that we live in, so it now becomes more important than ever for adults to empower them when it comes to their education, health, and other aspects of their development. Just as the Philippines’ national hero, Jose Rizal had said — young people are the hope of our nation. Because of this, there are plenty of government programs for youth in the Philippines. Read on.

Advocacy For The Youth

Gus and Joy Tambunting recognize that the youth is the hope and the future of our nation. That’s why it becomes one of their advocacies as public servants to support young people when it comes to their health, education, and more. Both of them have committed to empowering the youth by passing bills and implementing programs that can help them.

With more than three decades in service, Gus Tambunting is considered the champion of the youth. Only 23 years old when he became a councilor of Paranaque, he was one of the youngest public servants in the country back then. Then and now, he has focused on empowering the potential of the youth.

A lady with ambition, Joy Tambunting dreamt of becoming a mother even as a young girl. Unfortunately, her first two pregnancies ended in a miscarriage. This has moved her and her husband to put up the Pag-Asa ng Kabataan Foundation to support children in Paranaque. As a public servant, she supports bills that are for the youth — such as establishing the national academy of sports, the youth suicide prevention act, and more.

Educational Assistance

Throughout the years of their public service, Gus and Joy had always advocated the importance of education. From turning over laptops to public school teachers, building more classrooms, and more — they plan projects to improve the state of education in Paranaque. One of the programs you can avail of is the educational assistance. Here are the requirements:

Free Higher Education In SUCs and LUCs And Free Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Post-Secondary TVIs

One of the bills passed by Gus Tambunting is the RA 10931: Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education. This act aims to promote access to high-quality tertiary education by providing free tuition fees and other fees in schools — including state universities and colleges (SUCs), local universities and colleges (LUCs), and state-run technical-vocational institutions (TVIs).

Alternative Learning System

An act passed by Joy Tambunting, the RA 11510 or Alternative Learning System (ALS) Act aims to provide attention and support to the basic learning needs of out-of-school children in special cases, adult learners, and also indigenous peoples.

The ALS is a substitute if you can’t or don’t have access to formal education. It’s a free education program for school dropouts, non-readers, working Filipinos, disabled, senior citizens, or Filipinos who live in unreached, underserved, and conflict-affected communities.

National Feeding Program For Undernourished Children

A bill passed by Gus Tambunting, the RA 11037 or Masustansyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act aims to institutionalize a National Feeding Program for undernourished children to combat hunger and undernutrition. This is implemented for public daycare children and public school children from kindergarten to grade six.

The beneficiaries of the program will also be provided with health examinations, vaccination, and deworming. Aside from this, a public health, nutrition, and values transformation campaign shall also complement the program.

Key Takeaway

These are just some of the government programs for youth in the Philippines. With one of their advocacies to help and support the youth, both Gus and Joy Tambunting will continue to do their best to pass bills and implement projects that will be beneficial for young people now and in the future.

Whether you’re young or old, Gus and Joy Tambunting’s projects can help improve your quality of life. Aside from the programs listed above, you can also avail of several assistance programs — such as medical assistance, nebulizer assistance, DOLE-Tupad, and many more.
